There has been a fishing club in Goring and Streatley going back for more than 160 years; which is comfirmed by one of our rotating photographs. The present Club was originally established in the 1960's by the fireman of Goring Fire Station and its name changed to Goring Fishing Club after the fire station social club closed. Today, Goring Fishing Club continues to manage and control angling along the east bank of the river Thames (its Venue); that starts at Peg 1 which is found immediately downstream from the green at Ferry Lane and has done so for more than 65 years. In addition to that mandate, the Club endeavours to support the local community and works to maintain the river, its water quality and bank environment for all: for example by litter picking, removing pathway obstructions, river bank upkeep, water sampling and help with the maintainence of the Thames Pathway that runs along it.
The Goring Fishing Club website is designed to provide information that, we trust, will enable our Members' to enjoy a good day's Thames fishing along our venue.
The Goring Club Venue is around 1½ miles of the Thames that is downstream from Goring Weir and comprises more than 80 designated pegs; seperated into four distinct Sections. The Venue contains good stocks of Roach, Chub, Dace, Bream, Perch and Pike. There are also several catches of Barbel and Carp reported, plus an occasional Tench. There are also tales of the-fish-that-got-away, which often outnumber the fish landed because they are large!!
Night fishing is permitted, but not on every section: on the Daytime Only sections fishing is limited to be between Sunrise and Sunset.
With the success that our Bailiffs have had looking after the Venue, the Club has been granted permission to fish from designated concrete sections downstream from Goring Lock and Weir, but only from November to season close. Presently, this is a trial concession that with time and members' co-operation the Club looks forward to it becoming a more permanent arrangement.
Goring is a Members' only fishery. Day tickets are not provided because the price of Club membership is extremely reasonable: furthermore, concession fees exist for those over 65 years old, blue badge holders and juniors.
When in season, memberships and permits can be obtained by simply clicking the application button below: alternatively permits can be obtained from local Tackle Shops. A list of those tackle shops can be found under the PERMIT webtab.
The Club suggests that Members use no more than two rods at one time.
ALL THE ENVIRONMENTAL AGENCYS' STATUTORY CLOSED SEASONS APPLY TO OUR VENUE.
NIGHT FISHING IS PERMITTED FROM PEGS 1 to 77 ONLY.
NIGHT FISHING IS FORBIDDEN FROM PEG 78, AND THOSE PEGS DOWNSTREAM FROM IT.
[PEG 78 and including all pegs downstream from it, can only be fished between Sunrise to Sunset. Anglers must leave the Pegs before dark. Failure to abide by this Ruling will result in the cancellation of the Members' permit.]
Angler's are expected to respect the Local Environment, all Riparian Owners and Residents by keeping noise and disturbance to a minimum.
BOAT MOORING IS ONLY PERMITTED WITH THE RIPARIAN OWNERS PERMISSION; OTHERWISE BOAT MOORING IS FOREBIDDEN ALONG OUR VENUE.
