VENUE MAINTENANCE |
Pegs 1 to 40 have been strimmed and the meadow Pegs tieded up. The meadow Pegs have not been overly strimmed in the hope that it deters others occupying them. The Wythemead Pegs have been more vigorously cleared and the tree in Peg 71 has been removed. The railway bridge (Gatehampton) swims have been strimmed also. There was no time to erect the "dawn to dusk only fishing signs" here and that will be done asap. Please do not forget it is only dawn to dusk fishing at Wythemead and Gatehampton venue sections.
To the side is an example of a strimmed swim at Wythemead. |

RIVER THAMES (GORING) FISH STOCKING |
After 3 years of conversations with the Environment Agency our Chairman has obtained permission to Stock our section of the Thames. The result, the Club has been granted a 3 year Stocking Permit by the Environment Agency.
On Wednesday the 8th February 2024 the first stocking of the Goring River Section took place. It comprised a total of 250 Barbel (photographs taken on the day are shown below), which were introduced into the river. The Barbel were 1lb to 2lb in weight and aged around 3 summers; factors that should give them a good chance for survival in their new environment.
All the Stocked Barbel are marked with a blue tattoo on their abdomen (see photographs) to enable tracking their distribution throughout the river Thames. Members are requested to report any tattooed Barbel caught to a Bailiff or the Club. (A mechanism to better aid reporting will be put in place). Your actions will provide vital data that allows our Venues' Secretary, Club Officials' and the Environmental Agency continue to improve our fishery.

WATER SECTION AT GORING 24HR MOORINGS |
The Club are pleased to announce that, as last season, Goring FC Members will be allowed to fish the 24hr Moorings downstream from the footbridge below the main road bridge, plus The Cob (concrete island only), accessed over the 1st lock gate. This is the second trail agreement and it is planned to last until the end of this season. It is vital that members fishing here abide by all Club and Lock & Weir Rules. Goring Bailiffs and EA officials will ask you to produce your club permit at any time, so make sure you have it with you or stored on your SmartPhone.
Members observe that there is strictly NO PARKING under the road bridge or at the lock. There is NO fishing the lock layby (area from the 1st lock gate to the 1st foot bridge), nor at the lock layby area from below the 1st lock gate to first foot bridge, nor in the lock or below, around and behind the lock keeper's cottage.
Please note that Moored boats have priority over bank anglers.
The Club stresses this permission is a Trial Concession (as last season) and agreed at no additional charge to the Members. Please note it can be withdrawn at any time, so, please ensure you do not cause any issues and jeopardise this privilege to fish in these winter designated areas.

PATHWAY IMPROVEMENT |
The Pathway through the Wythemead Nature Reserve has recently undergone an extensive and costly renovation that improves our Club's access to Pegs located within the Reserve.
Before Works commenced the Trust and Goring Fishing Club consulted. The result of that consultation ensured that the Ground Works included provision for fish to return to the river after
flooding has occurred, plus other considerations. The Club welcomed being consulted and sincerley thanks the Trust for its consideration of our particular needs.
A donation to the cost of these Works has been made by Goring Fishing Club.
Work on the Pegs has also been undertaken by the Club, however they are deliberately left in a more "wild"
condition to deter Pleasure Boat Mooring; and the consequencial amount of litter that these users leave on the river bank. |
